In 1931 the Northeast (Manchurian) air force needed new equipment and manufacturers from several countries were invited to Shenyang (Mukden) to demonstrate their aircraft. When Japanese forces invaded and occupied Shenyang in September 1931 the whole Northeastern air force, one of the largest in China, was captured and several demonstration aircraft suffered the same fate.
