The Yunnan Province in the southwest of China had connection to the outside world through a railway to Hanoi in French Indochina. This, and the province’s geographical location, placed it firmly in a French sphere of influence that also included aviation matters. The local air force operated Breguet, Caudron and Potez types, but also American Arrow, Consolidated, Stinson and Ryan aircraft.
